Messi Wears f50 Design
Leo Messi has served as the face of the adidas f50 range for a number of years, in which he's been in record-breaking sensational form. So when adidas floated the idea for fans to design footwear for the icon, the response was overwhelming.
Messi sat down and sifted through a selection of colour designs, and honed in on a generally minimalist look to take to the field against Atletico Madrid. Messi's chosen f50 design comprised of a running white upper, with black outsole / sprintframe laces and vivid red heel, tongue and iconic adidas three-stripe.
From the 14,200 submitted entries, from which we presume Messi was given a short-list, Javier Pascual Mullor from Spain was identified as the lucky winner. Javier s original design template was taken and adapted to the new f50 boot, and complemented by Leo s usual boot customisations; including the Messi Icon logo, Argentinian flag, Leo 10 and acknowledgement to his newborn son Thiago.
Speaking about his chosen boot design Messi said: I am happy with the miadidas boots and want to congratulate Javier on designing the winning ones... I also want to thank everyone who sent in their designs, they were all really good!
Messi s much anticipated miadidas appearance follows on from the popular miadidas Next Gen Weekend , which involved seven top adidas players from clubs throughout Europe wearing uniquely designed miadidas boots on field during November. Highlights of these player appearances included Oscar s long-range volley for Chelsea against Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League™ and goals from Riccardo Montolivo, Lukas Podolski and Thomas MÜller during their respective domestic league fixtures.
Wearing the unique one-off f50 adizero footwear, Leo Messi was twice on the score-sheet as Barcelona defeated nearest league rivals Atletico Madrid 4-1, in which Messi scored his record breaking 89th and 90th goals of a remarkable 2012.
