Exclusive: SB Meets Andrey Arshavin - Talk Nike Mercurial V9

Still a Gunner. Arshavin has made 11 appearances for Arsenal this season, scoring once in the V8.

Arshavin has experienced highs and lows throughout his career as a Nike player. He signed for Arsenal in the 2009 January transfer window from his home town club Zenit St Petersburg. The Russian arrived in England with a bang, most notably scoring four goals against Liverpool at Anfield wearing the original Mercurial Superfly.

Arshavin's stock rose significantly following a string of stand-out performances at Euro 2008 wearing the popular Vapor IV EC08. "It (the 2008 European Championships) was the biggest success for the Russian team. We qualified in the semi-final. In the Euros I didn't play in this (the standard MV IV EC08 editions), but it was delivered (made) for me because it was too hard. Of course, it was my greatest success."

On form. Arshavin was unplayable at times during the 2008 European Championships.

The modern boot landscape is very different to Arshavin's earliest days of playing competitive football. "When I started to play football in Russia, it was very difficult to get any boots. We went to Italy for a tournament and one guy brought me some used boots. They were very soft and I had never tried anything like that before so I was excited."

There aren't many characters like Arshavin in the Premier League, so we're hoping he rediscovers his form that made him a cult hero at Arsenal! Let us know what you think of the player and his boots. Join the coversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook
