Global Football Boots Spotting - 07/01/13

Global Football Boots Spotting - 07/01/13

It may be a new calendar year, but the 2012/13 season is past halfway and continues to write headlines. As we enter the New Year, here's a look at the purveyors of the finest footwear to have caught our eye this week, as we offer up our weekly selection of the best boots on show from across the globe!

Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) Nike CR Mercurial IX

To celebrate a record-breaking year - ahead of the the Vapor IX launch proper - Nike geared Cristiano Ronaldo up with a unique pair of Mercurials. With the signature 'CR7' and a host of digits to convey Cristiano's amazing statistical year, the Real Madrid star duly delivered as he scored two goals in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Real Sociedad.

Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich) adidas F50 adizero

Bastian Schweinsteiger and the adipure range have had an estranged relationship in recent years. Despite Bastian being the lead asset for the range, he has not wielded to the new tech in particular the more recent outsoles. It's huge news then to see the German star sporting F50 adizero's, with rumours circulating he is more impressed with the leather on the latest F50 incarnation.

Sergio Busquets (Catalonia) Nike CTR360 Maestri III

Busquets is just one of a number of players to take to the field wearing a new Spring 2013 Nike CTR360 colourway. Undoubtedly a classy looking boot with a great colour combination, despite the colour combination being precariously close to the recent signature CR7 boot of Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto (Tottenham Hotspur) Under Armour Spine Blur III

We've enjoyed featuring Assou-Ekotto in Boot Spotting, as in the past he's brought us some great boot choices, notably different boots on each foot and of course black-outs. Assou-Ekotto now finds himself in another edition of Boot Spotting, as not only is he wearing the new UA Spine Blur III, but he's wearing a colour combination not expected to be seen for another few months.

Marco Borriello (Genoa) Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII

After a recent stint in adizero's and even Akuna football boots, Marco Borriello is back wearing Nike Mercurial Vapors. Although not quite, as the Genoa forward clearly has ongoing contractual issues as he has custom blacked-out his football boots, which probably isn't helping the ACC upper!

Jack Wilshere (Arsenal) Nike CTR360 Maestri III

Despite a few new Spring 2013 colour options, it's the Citrus/Black Nike CTR360 football boots which are seemingly everywhere on-pitch. The new colour combination got quite a mute response when first unveiled (due in part to a similarity to the launch Sonic Yellow/Black versions), but as shown by Jack Wilshere here the boots are certainly eye-catching.

Joe Cole (West Ham) Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII

The Hammers' idol returned to Upton Park and the West Ham starting line-up, with a dream performance assisting two goals against Manchester United. Cole remained in the ACC Vapor football boots, and perhaps the player and boots' destiny was always meant to be West Ham, as the colours are such a great match for the kit.

Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace) Nike GS II

Could this be a late recruit to the Nike GS II squad? Assembled by Nike as the hottest young talent across Europe, and including the likes of Raheem Sterling, Stephan El Sharaawy and Eden Hazard, could Nike be anticipating a big move for the highly-rated and sought after forward. Zaha is no stranger to the Mercurial range, and with such an eclectic collection there is also the likelihood he chose the boots himself.

Nemanja Vidic (Manchester United) PUMA King

Not just a one-off, it appears former PowerCat lead asset Nemanja Vidic has made the switch into the new PUMA King. We're unsure whether this a strategical move from PUMA, or a player led decision. But the new King has received a good response, as we've seen with the likes of Yaya Toure and Mikel Arteta also switching.

Davide Moro (Empoli) adidas F50 adizero miCoach

Why wear just one boot colour, when you have two feet?! This is seemingly the thinking of Empoli midfielder Davide Moro, who as we understand has never previously worn either of these colourways, and thought if you can't make your mind up then just wear both!

If there are any players boots that you've spotted and think we should feature, mail us at: u2us@soccerbible.com putting 'Boot Spotting' in the subject field.
