Global Football Boots Spotting - 28/01/13

The African Cup of Nations is always a gold mine when it comes to football boot spotting and this year has been no different as the competition continues to entertain! With spots from Africa, Europe and Australia, we've rounded up a selection of the best boots to catch our eye this past weekend. Take a look!

Gervinho (Ivory Coast) Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

What has gotten into Gervinho? The Arsenal flop can't stop scoring at the African Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast. Not only that, but he's added some extra flair to his Fireberry Vapor IX boots with some bright green laces. They're not something Nike offer when you buy the boots, so don't expect to find a pair of Gervinho's green laces when you unbox your Mercurial V9's.

Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo) adidas f50 adizero

Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has given his f50 adizero boots some slick customisation in true Togo fashion! The gangly front-man either has some serious art skills or has been given some help with his custom boot design. The three adidas stripes have been coloured green along with Togo's national sparrow hawk symbol painted across the toe.

Roberto Peryra (Udinese) Nike GS II

Udinese winger Roberto Pereyra is flying the Nike GS II flag in Serie A . Personalised with his native Argentinian flag across the external heel counter, the super-light Nike boots are a perfect match for his Udinese home strip. The former River Plate player is one of a handful of professional players currently wearing the Nike GS II across Europe.

Paulo Dybala (Palermo) Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

Paulo Dybala - the Argentine youngster labelled as the new Sergio Aguero - was spotted wearing his personalised Nike Mercurial V9 football boots as his side took on Serie A rivals Cagliari. The Palermo no.9 is making his name heard since signing for the Italian side in 2012. He's an attacking player of great natural ability and could be a future Nike star in the making.

May Sphiwe Mahlangu (South Africa) Puma v1.10 SL

May Mahlangu helped South Africa top Group A after scoring in his sides 2-2 draw with Morocco wearing the PUMA v1.10 SL football boots. Released back in 2010 these are still on record as the lightest football boots ever, weighing just 150g. They set a new benchmark for lightweight football boots in 2010 and have kept hold of their title ever since. Mahlangu was in action wearing the Blue/White/Ebony colourway.

Amaro (Angola) adidas f50 adizero (2011 2012 models)

Odd boots and odd laces! Not something you see every day. Angola defender (we think!) Amaro was spotted wearing two separate generations of the f50 adizero during his sides AfCoN match against the Cape Verde Islands. Not only that, but it looks as if he swapped the orange and yellow laces of each boot around as well.

Essaid Belkalem (Algeria) Nike Mercurial Vapor IV SL

There's never a shortage of interesting boot spots during the African Cup of Nations and here's another boot you don't see every day. During Algeria's match with Togo, defender Essaid Belkalem was spotted wearing the Nike Mercurial Vapor IV SL. Released way back in 2008, these boots remain a modern day classic.

Josip Tadic (Melbourne Heart) adidas Predator LZ SL

We've grown to like the adidas Predator LZ SL - especially the electricity/black/lime colourway as seen here on the feet of Melbourne Heart striker Josip Tadic. They're unmissable and could have been the inspiration for Nike's latest Volt/Black/Citron T90 colourway. Tadic's team were up against A-League newcomers Western Sydney Wanderer's who claimed a 1-0 victory with only 10 men on the field.

Julio Tavares (Cape Verde Islands) Nike iD Mercurial Vapor VIII

What's great about the AfCoN is you get to see player's you wouldn't ordinarily watch. Julio Tavares - who plays for French Ligue 2 side Dijon FCO - was spotted wearing a flash looking pair of custom Nike iD Vapor VIII football boots as his Cape Verde Islands side continue to upset the odds in their first ever AfCoN, remarkably progressing to the last eight in the tournament.

Craig Samson (St. Mirren) Nike Air Zoom Total 90

The very first Total 90 boot! Possibly one of the oldest pairs of boots we've ever featured on SoccerBible bootspotting. St.Mirren goalkeeper Craig Samson was spotted wearing a super retro pair of Nike Air Zoom Total 90 football boots first released way back in the year 2000. Unbelievably the Scottish shot stopper has been wearing the boots all season.

Yuji Ono (Standard de Liege) Nike Mercurial Vapor IX

Standard Liege striker Yuji Ono has landed a unique pair of Vapor IX football boots fitted with conical shaped studs on the outsole. For the top tier Vapor IX Nike have released a AG plate, but Ono's stud pattern isn't featured on any of Nike's current European Mercurial models. They could however be a HG edition bespoke to the Japanese market.
