Tech Talk: PUMA's Pascal Van Essen Talks PUMA King

The man behind crafting one of the most recognised football boot models in the game recently sat down with us at SoccerBible to talk about how PUMA created the latest King. Pascal Van Essen - Global Head of PUMA Team Sports - is faced with the exciting challenge of harbouring a new generation of King players.

The King still holds its place as one of football's all time classics. Seen as the boot choice for football traditionalists, the new design boasts modern technologies that keep the King relevant. One look at their professional roster tells you all you need to know.

"Our players are excellent to work with. They are really good in delivering feedback to us. They really know what they want from their footwear and they are able to explain why they want it and how we can help to improve the shoes."

"I think what links all of the King shoes together is the basis and the foundation. The King has always been about craftmanship, about nice material and about fitting to your foot. I think this is what all Kings throughout the years have in common. If they've been worn by Pele, Maradonna or any of our other assets, it's always been about fit, about comfort and about providing players with a good boot that always performs."

"The challenge is to bring everything together in one package. Creating a shoe is like a puzzle. We had the feeling that when we did this King, we really did a great job and brought that puzzle together."
