Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Delivers Nike England Shirt To Old School

To help launch the new England home shirt, Nike called on the services of Arsenal duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere. Both players returned to their boyhood clubs to award one youngster with the honour of becoming the first in the country to get their hands on the jersey.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, England's second youngest player to represent England in an international tournament, returned to St John's College in Southsea, Portsmouth. Reuniting with old school teachers on the fields where it all began for him, the Arsenal midfielder arrived shirt in pocket, ready to select one player from the group of students.

Speaking to SoccerBible, Alex explained how it feels to be involved with launching a new England kit. "I was here to help launch the new England kit which is obviously an honour to be a part of. To come back to my old school was really nice as well for me.

"It's good to be able to come down here and make someone happy as well. I definitely would have been if I was one of the first to get my hands on the new England kit. He was really happy to get hold of it and he had a bit of ability as well when I was watching."

The idea behind the event was to demonstrate that the kit belongs to the nation, not just the players lucky enough to represent England. The new England kit boasts a clean, distinctive design takes the kit back to its roots with its traditional white and dark blue to celebrate the FA's 150th anniversary.

"It's really special being a Nike athlete. The kit is really nice and I can't wait to hopefully get a chance to wear it very soon. The important thing is what we do in it. We're the people with the opportunity to make something special happen with the kit on. That's the most important thing and what will make people remember the kit."

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was speaking as he returned to his former school to help launch the new Nike England Home Kit 2013. Alex was impressed by student Jasper Clow's commitment during a training session, and chose him to wear #theshirt, available from 28th May on prodirectsoccer.com.
