Global Football Boots Spotting - 27/05/13

Global Football Boots Spotting - 27/05/13

Wembley was an array of new boots in Saturday s Champions League final as brands showcased their new footwear on the world s biggest stage. The weekend belonged to Bayern Munich but whose boots did we have our eyes on? Time to find out who made the cut in this week s boots spotting…

Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich) adidas f50 adizero

Arjen Robben was the hero for Bayern Munich as he redeemed himself from that penalty miss against Chelsea last year to score the winning goal at Wembley and clinch the UCL title for Bayern. Robben actually played the game wearing the Blue/White/Pink f50 colourway but adidas must have had a quiet word in his ear at full time as the Dutch winger returned to the pitch to join in the celebrations wearing the new Infrared colour update.

Dani Alves (Barcelona) adidas Nitrocharge 1.0

Dani Alves was one of adidas lead assets for the Nitrocharge launch. We ve already spoken to the Barca full back about the boot and Alves laced up in the new silo for the first time on Sunday as Barcelona beat Espanyol 2-0. First appearance for Alves Nitrocharge and the last appearance for Barca s away shirt. Good swap.

Dante (Bayern Munich) PUMA King

Dante was a relieved man at the final whistle on Saturday night. The big Bayern defender nearly cost his side the game when he clumsily pole axed fellow PUMA athlete Reus to gift Dortmund an equalizer. Dante was laced up in the new PUMA King colourway launched last week specifically for the final.

Oscar (Chelsea) adidas Predator LZ

With most Premier League players chilling with their feet up in the Bahamas, Manchester City and Chelsea are playing a couple of definitely not corporate friendlies out in the States. Both clubs were kitted out in their new home shirts and to be fair both fielded strong sides with City running out 5-3 winners. Oscar and Nasri were both sporting the new Preds and feel free to shoot us down, but… they might just be growing on us.

Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund) PUMA PowerCat 1.12

Another player wearing new PUMA boots at the weekend was Marco Reus. The Dortmund winger and goalkeeper Weidenfeller were both reppin the new PowerCat colourway for the first time. The new Black/Yellow/White/Blue paint job looked sharp on pitch but couldn t prevent Reus from being on the losing side at Wembley.

Kaka (Real Madrid) adidas Predator LZ

Real Madrid played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in their penultimate La Liga game of the season against Sociedad. Kaka was one of a few players donning the new generation adidas Predator but he won t be giving them a run out against England after being left out of the Brazil Confederations Cup squad by Scolari in favour of more enthusiastic players .

Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich) adidas adiPure 11Pro

The new adidas adiPure 11Pro colourway joined the latest boots on show at the Champions League Final courtesy of Bayern captain Philipp Lahm. A more traditional paint job on adidas heritage boot will please a few people and they looked a decent match with the new Bayern home shirt.

James McClean (Republic of Ireland) Nike Mercurial Vapor XV

Sunderland winger James McClean should have his own slot in boots spotting, the boy loves a limited edition release. Ahead of the Republic of Ireland s friendly against England on Wednesday McClean has been training in the limited edition Nike Mercurial Vapor XV. There were only 1,998 pairs of R9 s famous boots re-released and when most pairs are proudly shown off in presentation cabinets, McClean s will be gracing the turf at Wembley. If he gets on…

Lei Tenglong (Beijing Go'an) Nike Mercurial Vapor IX Custom

Beijing Go'an s Lei Tenglong was wearing a custom pair of Nike Mercurial Vapor IX boots during the AFC Champions League match against FC Seoul. He s gone all out with a pink design and what looks to be either white tape or a removable sweet-spot over the tongue. Real men wear pink, apparently.
