Nike Drop 15 Pairs Of Super Ltd Edition MVIX R9 Chrome

Nike follow up their launch of the Mercurial Vapor XV with an even more limited edition boot. Right now you're looking at 1 of only 15 trophy-esque pairs of Mercurial IX R9 Chrome football boots on the planet. As far as special edition releases go, they don't come much rarer than these...

The Nike Mercurial Vapor IX R9 Chrome is not for sale and only a select few people have managed to get their hands on them. The first pair were hand delivered by Nike to El Fenomeno himself, it's only right that the man who the boot was named after should be at the front of the queue for a special edition version of the boot he first wore 15 years ago at the 1998 World Cup.

Nike distributed the next 3 pairs to the most knowledgeable Mercurial obsessed teens with @nedoz9, @AlbashGulak and @heruchris the lucky trio to bag a pair. Each received a chrome box containing a pair of the rarest boots in the world complete with lasered identification number and all 3 lads shared them on twitter for the world to admire. That's some collectors item they've got there and credit to Nike for rewarding them to genuine fans rather than selling them to the highest bidder.

The upper material on the Nike Mercurial Vapor IX R9 Chrome is made of synthetics with a chrome finish, which can also be found on the fibre glass sole plate. The upper is stitched for a more classic and crafted finish compared to the retail version which is made with a modern finish. The Chromes also feature black laces whereas the retail versions are the same colour as the swoosh.

So, 1 pair for the original R9, 3 pairs for Mercurial manics, if our maths are correct that leaves 11 pairs left. So who has those? Well, the remaining pairs have been dished out to Nike's specialist contacts, which luckily include ourselves so we can share and showcase them with you lot. Yep, that's right have a good stare because you'll never get to touch them. Unlike the 1,998 pairs of the retail version, the Chromes won't be hitting the shelves.

Nike have created a special edition boot that firmly belongs in a presentation cabinet rather than on the pitch. Ronaldo may no longer be playing but the recent R9 specific launches are proof that his legacy remains. If boots are still being launched with your name on years after you retired, chances are you were a half decent player...
