SB Meets Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - England Q&A
After officially unveiling the new England home shirt at his old school in Portsmouth we sat down with Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain to talk about his school footballing memories, working with Nike and looking ahead to the World Cup in Brazil with England.
From watching England in his school sports centre at the 2002 World Cup to kitting up for The Three Lions at Euro 2012, it's been a crazy decade for the young Arsenal winger and he looks to be loving every minute of it.
The Ox was feeling a bit nostalgic to be back on his old stomping ground, he told us how he used to run riot on the playing fields when he was at school. I've got really good memories down at these playing fields, my teacher put me in goal because I was scoring a few too many goals. I remember I saved a shot, put the ball down trying to be a proper keeper and roll it our before they kick it and before I knew it I'd ran the whole pitch and scored and then got subbed!
Let's be honest we've been pretty deprived of memorable England moments in recent years but Alex picked out David Beckham's last minute free kick against Greece in 2001 as his favourite England memory and went on to tell us how an 8 year old Ox (Calf if you like) celebrated Michael Owen's opener against Brazil in his schools' sports hall.
On wearing the England shirt AOC said, It's a slightly different feeling from putting on your club shirt, you wear both shirts with pride and it's an honour to be a part of Arsenal but you don't get to put on an England shirt as often so it makes it really special
