Global Football Boots Spotting - 22/07/13

Global Football Boots Spotting - 22/07/13

Pre-season is now in full flow with clubs upping the tempo ahead of the big kick off. Friendlies give players the perfect opportunity to try out new football boots to help them decide on their new wheels for the new campaign. Boot switches, old school drops and custom jobs, see who made the cut this week...

Robin Van Persie (Manchester United) adidas f50 adizero

It looks like RVP has finally switched from his lucky Predator adiPowers to the f50. Van Persie was scoring goals for fun last season in his old adiPowers so it was understandable that he didn't want to swap boots but a new season is a fresh start and adidas will be pleased to see the United striker in the f50. If he hits a dry patch next season we wouldn't rule out RVP smashing the glass and pulling out the emergency adiPowers though! RVP hasn't completely let go of the adiPower just yet, his f50's are customised with an adiPower soleplate.

Wesley Sneijder (Galatasaray) Nike HyperVenom

Wesley Sneijder is another one of Nike's athletes that have switched into the new HyperVenom silo. The HyperVenom has taken over from the T90 series and it makes sense that Sneijder would slip into the new boot after wearing the T90 his entire career. Sneijder scored a rocket of a goal as Galatasaray flew to England to take on Notts County.

Mahalli bin Jasuli (Malaysia) PUMA evoSPEED 1 Cedella Marley

During Chelsea's tour of the Far East we spotted Malaysian player Mahalli bin Jasuli wearing a boot that saw almost zero on pitch coverage when released. The PUMA evoSPEED 1 CM was a collaboration between the brand and Bob Marley's daughter and fashion designer Cedella Marley. A unique Jamaican design dipped in a helping of reggae flavour.

Abdoulaye Faye (Hull City) Nike CR7 Mercurial Vapor Superfly III

Abdoulaye Faye gave us a reminder that the Mercurial Vapor VIII CR is still one of the craziest football boots ever released. The Hull City veteran was laced up in a pair of Ronaldo's signature boots as his side took on Winterton Rangers in a pre-season friendly ahead of Hull's Premier League return next month.

Antonio Cassano (Parma) Diadora DD-NA GLX14

Parma's Antonio Cassano has been wearing Diadora boots since his Sampdoria days and is the most high profile player still wearing the brand. Cassano has been wearing Diadora's new DD-NA GLX14 model during pre-season, which looks to have followed suit of PUMA and Nike with the name of the brand plastered on the instep of the boot.

Asier Illarramendi (Real Madrid) adidas 11Pro

After wearing the new adidas Nitrocharge during his official Real Madrid unveiling, new signing Asier Illarramendi was back in the 11Pro as the Spanish giants were on British shores this weekend. Madrid flew over to play a one off friendly against Championship new boys Bournemouth and with a near full strength side on the pitch hammered their hosts 6-0.

Cesar Navas (Rubin Kazan) adidas Predator LZ Custom

Cesar Navas has been busy on miadidas, the Rubin Kazan player has pimped up his adidas Predator LZ boots with a custom paint job, a very manly turquoise and pink paint job to be precise. If you're paying extra to create a unique pair of boots you'd at least create a decent looking pair, maybe he's colour-blind or his mrs does his shopping.

Joe Hart (Manchester City) Umbro Speciali IV

Joe Hart remains one of a dying breed of Umbro players but the Manchester City 'keeper was wearing the new black/lava pink Speciali IV boots during his side's tour of South Africa. The Speciali is top quality boot that's been around for season's and Hart will continue to wear the new colourway when the Premier League season kicks off next month.

Manqana Jabulo (AmaZulu) adidas f50 adizero

Manqana Jabulo, you know, Jabo, Jabbsy, of AmaZulu in South Africa? No? Fair enough, we hadn't heard of him either but his team took on Manchester City this week and we couldn't help but notice him wearing the first adidas f50 adizero models. A top match for the AmaZulu kit and he's kept them in pretty good condition seeing as though they were released in 2010.

Karen Carney (England) PUMA evoSPEED 1.2

It wouldn't be summer without England getting brutally dumped out of an International tournament and this week it was the women's hearts that were broken falling at the group stage of the European Championships. Amongst the boots spots was Karen Carney wearing the new women's project pink PUMA evoSPEED boots.

Lukas Podolski (Arsenal) adidas f50 adizero Custom

Arsenal are currently smashing their way through their Asia tour by pumping every team in their path. Lukas Podolski loves a new boot, the mad German has got a big passion for football boots and he's been wearing a custom white pair of f50's with subtle red details on the stripes. We've been told by adidas that Lukas just created these online himself, the brand didn't supply them.

Cole Skuse (Ipswich Town) Pantofola d'Oro 1920 Vitello

Cole Skuse used to feature heavily in boots spotting during his Bristol City days, the midfielder is one of the only players we're aware of that has consistently worn Pantofola d'Oro boots through his career. Skuse signed for Ipswich over the summer and it's good to see him still flying the Pantofola flag. Other players don't know what they're missing, one of the coolest and comfiest boots on the market.

If there are any players boots that you've spotted and think we should feature, mail us at: u2us@soccerbible.com putting 'Boot Spotting' in the subject field.
