adidas release new video of 'Messi and friends' tour.
Leo Messi spent a good part of his pre-season embarking on a four match charity tour pitting 'Messi Friends' against 'Rest of the World' teams. Now adidas have released a new video showing never before seen footage of the tour that nicely captures the spirit and comradery between the world's elite.
The four matches were planned to take place in Colombia, Peru, Los Angeles and Chicago but unfortunately for his Californian fans the LA match was cancelled. The first match played at the Atanasio Girardot stadium in Medellin, Colombia featured stars such as Ronaldinho, Florent Malouda and Robinho and saw 'Messi friends' dressed in the green and white colours of Colombia's Atletico Nacional team, win 9-6.
Next stop was Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru and a 'Rest of the World' team captained by Messi's new team mate Neymar. Billed as the 'Duel of Giants' Messi shared the pitch with Barcelona s Sergio Busquets, Abidal and Mascherano, and other stars such as Julio CÉsar and David Luiz. Neymar scored twice including a 40 yard screamer but it wasn't enough to stop Leo's team winning 8-5.
Game three in LA was cancelled so it was on to Chicago and game four. Messi Friends won again, 9-6, against a 'Rest of the World' side captained by New York Red Bulls Thierry Henry. The games highlight however was a stunning bicycle kick from amateur Matt Eliason that smashed its way into the back of the net. Game four was also the second game that saw the 'Messi friends' team playing in a black, purple and pink kit to match Leo's new signature adizero f50s.
