Global Boot Spotting - 19/08/13
The pick of the week's football boots as the Premier League returns.

The Premier League is back. 12 weeks and 6 days of watching low key tournaments, trying to be interested in cricket and getting dragged around shopping centres on Saturday afternoons are over. The real thing returned this weekend and with it a host of players switching boots, HyperVenom making it's EPL debut and a few custom jobs on show for good measure...

Christian Benteke (Aston Villa) Nike HyperVenom

Villa kicked off their season by reaping the rewards of doing everything in their power to keep hold of Christian Bentekkerz in the summer. The big Belgian has swapped his Tiempos for HyperVenoms and opened his 2013/14 season goalscoring account by notching a brace at the Emirates as Villa beat ten man Arsenal 3-1.

Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) adidas Predator LZ

As we expected Steven Gerrard kicked off the Premier League season wearing adidas Predators. The Liverpool captain had been wearing the 11Pro during pre-season but adidas assured us Gerrard would start the new campaign back in the Pred now that his rubbing issue has been resolved.

Declan John (Cardiff City) adidas f50 adizero Messi

Cardiff City began life in the top flight with a defeat going down 2-0 at West Ham. City's 18 year old defender Declan John was thrown straight into the deep end making his first competitive league start and marked the occasion by wearing a pair of signature Messi adidas f50 boots. We don't reckon the boy lacks confidence.

Shane Long (West Brom) Nike T90 Laser IV

Shane Long, previously contracted to PUMA, looks to have made a permanent switch to Nike over the summer. Rather than slipping into HyperVenoms the Irish striker has opted to lace up in a pair of T90 Laser IV boots, now a discontinued boot. It'll be interesting to see what he wears when these are knackered.

Daniel Agger (Liverpool) adidas f50 adizero

Daniel Agger has been wearing the same f50's since the 2011/12 season, he's found a pair he likes and he's stuck with them. Whether it's the same exact pair he wears every week or whether he stocked up on the white/cyan/pink second generation adizeros when they were launched we're not sure but either way he knows what he likes. Clean sheet, three points, good start for the Red men.

Francesco Totti (Roma) Nike Tiempo Legend IV Custom

They say loyalty in the game is dead, well Francesco Totti will kick off his 20th season as a Roma player next week. That is impressive. Totti was playing for Roma in 1993 and he's still playing at the top level and still wearing Nike boots. The 36 year old has customised his Tiempo Legend IV boots with a tongue and altered the sole-plate to create an old school look. The word legend is overused in football these days but Totti thoroughly deserves that title.

Ed Upson (Yeovil Town) adidas Nitrocharge 1.0

We're surprised we haven't seen more of this Nitrocharge colourway on the pro scene, the black/electricity paint job is an awesome looking boot that hasn't received much player support. Yeovil's Ed Upson has grabbed a pair and opted for the electricity laces as his side lost 2-0 to Burnley on Saturday.

Luke Varney (Leeds United) Nike HyperVenom Custom

How's this for a custom HyperVenom job? Leeds' Luke Varney has been busy personalising Nike's latest silo to give them the complete unique look. We've seen custom versions of all Nike's boots but this is the first time we've seen the HyperVenom adopt the iD treatment. Top work, doubt that's the last one we'll see either.

Fede Cartabia (Valencia) adidas f50 adizero

Another decent colourway we haven't seen too much of is the black/white/red adidas f50. We spotted Valencia's Fede sporting a pair at the weekend against Malaga and remembered how good they look on pitch. Black speed boot, in leather, can't go wrong in our opinion.
