Global Football Boots Spotting - 23/09/13
Global Boot Spotting - 23/09/13
The pick of the week's best football boots from across the globe.
We take a look back at the very best of the boot spotting action on a weekend where City gave Manchester four layers of blue paint, players united to tackle homophobia by wearing rainbow laces and PUMA's new colourways were given goalscoring debuts...
Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona) PUMA PowerCat 1 |
Cesc Fabregas opened his new season account on Saturday, scoring in Barca's 4-0 win over Rayo Vallecano. The midfielder was in action wearing his new Orange/Blackberry/White PUMA PowerCat boots for the first time as Barcelona moved top of La Liga table, narrowly sitting above Atletico Madrid on goal difference. |
Sergio Aguero (Manchester City) PUMA evoSPEED 1.2 |
Sergio Aguero marked a memorable boot debut wearing his new Blackberry/Orange/Pink PUMA evoSPEED boots for the first time in the Premier League. The Manchester City striker was instrumental in his sides demolition of rivals Manchester United, scoring twice in their 4-1 victory. Judging by United's performance, Aguero might have been right in saying Usain Bolt would get into the Manchester United team. Poor old Bolt wouldn't have enjoyed Aguero's performance. |
Jonjo Shelvey (Swansea City) miadidias Predator LZ |
Jonjo Shelvey must have had a mid-week delivery in the post after he was spotted wearing a miadidas pair of Predator LZ bots. The boys obviously got taste, styling his Predator boots in a black/white colourway. After a summer of wearing Nike, Shelvey is back in the three stripes as he looks to make a name for himself in Wales. |
Mesut Ozil (Arsenal) adidias Predator LZ |
Mesut Ozil gave the Premier League another masterclass in the art of assists this past weekend, helping to set up all three of Arsenal's goals in their 3-1 win against Stoke. Having officially signed with, the German midfielder was in action wearing his Predator LZ boots bespoke with his international number on the heel. |
Marouane Fellaini (Manchester United) Warrior Gambler |
Manchester United's summer signing made his derby debut wearing an updated colourway of the Warrior Gambler. As only the second colourway to the new Gambler line, the design is a world apart from the black launch colourway and provides the Premier League newcomers with some serious on-pitch presence. |
Leighton Baines (Everton) adidas Predator LZ |
Saturday saw a selection of players wear rainbow laces to help combat homophobia in football. Everton's Leighton Baines was the pick of the bunch, scoring two humdinger free kicks in Everton's 3-2 win over West Ham. The England full-back laced up his Blue/White/Orange Predator LZ boots with the rainbow laces, joining a number of other professionals and managers. |
Nicolas Anelka (West Brom) adidas f50 adizero |
Nicolas Anelka made the most surprising boot switch at the weekend as the West Brom striker reverted into his old F50's in which he hasn't worn since his Chelsea days. The original F50 adizero was launched in 2010 so Anelka must have had a pair stashed away since then. Random choice from Anelka, interesting to see if he sticks with them for next week. |
Kyle Naughton (Tottenham Hotspur) Mizuno Morelia Neo |
Spurs full back Kyle Naughton is another player to make the switch into the Mizuno Neo this season. Previously a Nike CTR man Naughton has recently been playing in the orange Neo before changing to the older yellow colourway as his side scored a late winner at Cardiff on Sunday. Naughton joins Arsenal's Jenkinson as the latest Premier League player to wear the Japanese brand. |
Shaun Wright-Phillips (QPR) adidas F50 adizero |
Shaun Wright-Phillips followed Joey Barton's lead in showing his support against homophobia in football. The QPR winger laced up alongside Barton in the multi-colored laces as his side took on Yeovil Town. Looking at Shaun's laces, they must have been a last minute swap in the changing rooms. |
Karl Henry (QPR) Nike Tiempo Legend IV Elite |
QPR midfielder Karl Henry has managed to get his hands on a pair of Tiempo Elite's in the original colourway, still one of the best looking boots of the decade. Launched in 2011 the Tiempo Legend IV has been around the block and must surely be entering it's final colourways. Henry's boots are a bit of a collectors item now but Henry's putting them to use by chopping down every Championship midfielder in them. |
Habib Habibou (Zulte Waregem) NIKEiD Mercurial Vapor IX |
Wigan Athletic started their Europa League adventure on Thursday night with a trip to Belgium to take on Zulte Waregem. In a dire 0-0 draw we plucked out Habib Habibou's custom Mercs as the pick of the boot spotting action. Habibou, who spent a few games on loan at Leeds last season has given his boots a pretty decent red/blue makeover. Tidy. |
Mauricio Pinilla (Cagliari) Umbro GeoFlare |
The Umbro GeoFlare boot was released as a brand new silo earlier this year but has seen very little player uptake on the professional scene. A pair have made their way to Italy though where Mauricio Pinilla has been laced up in them. The Cagliari striker was in action wearing the GeoFlare as his side drew 2-2 with Sampdoria in a game which saw three injury time goals. |
