Architect Reveals Designs for Qatar 2022
Stadium designs for the Qatar World Cup unveiled by Zaha Hadid.
With the argument of when the 2022 Qatar World Cup should be held now settled, work on the country's new stadiums looks set to begin. Yesterday legendary architect Zaha Hadid, who has been appointed to design the stadiums for the 2022 World Cup, unveiled a first look at the Al Wakrah Stadium, one of nine potential builds.
The stadium will be located approximately fifteen kilometers south of Doha in Al Wakrah - the southernmost city hosting matches for 2022 World Cup. The stadium and precinct area surrounding it will embrace the cultural heritage of Al Wakrah, while the venue will be designed for use during Qatar's hot summer climate. 
Al Wakrah's tradition is reflected in the stadiums curved design which is based on the traditional dhow, a type of fishing boat frequently found in Al Wakrah s harbors. The innovative new design will have a capacity of 40,000 with a modular top tier that can be removed to lower the capacity to 20,000, aiding the stadium's commercial longevity.
