Yeah, yeah, it's not the right sort of football. But when Nike are dishing out signature Mercurial-styled designs like this then we're interested. This here is Odell Beckham Jr.'s latest pre-match cleat for the 18/19 season.

It's the eighth special edition pregame design for OBJ this season and one that comes covered in Swooshes all over – a design that you, we and everyone else wouldn't mind seeing on the Mercurial football boot. When it comes to American Football and signature series Nike don't do half measures, the shackles are off and anything is fair game.

Worn by OBJ during pregame of the New York Giants’ October 28 home game versus Washington, the latest design is wrapped in a shimmering red finish with mini-Swooshes scattered across the upper. The series has seen some truly outrageous designs so far this year leading us to think that Nike Football (Soccer) might well have the handbrake on when it comes to the full potential of a signature series.

Another standout edition in the OBJ pregame series included a R9 inspired pattern from the 1998 Mercurial as Nike keep embracing cross-sports by overlapping them with projects such as this, and to a higher extent the PSG x Jordan collaboration. It's big, it's bold and it fits into the American Sports market perfectly. As Nike Football enters a new era with new leading personalities, who's to say they couldn't pull this off for the likes of Neymar and Mbappe in the not too distant future?
