Nike and Nigeria have announced that they are extending their partnership to 2026 on the back of the much hyped 2018 Naija collection, with the new deal being described as the 'best ever for an African nation’ by the Nigerian FA.
The deal is set to run for an initial four year period, but an automatic renewal clause will take the collaboration through to the end of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. For fans of the recently rereleased 2018 World Cup kit (that’s everyone with eyes) this welcome news means that Nike will supply kit to Nigeria’s national soccer team for the next two World Cups.
As well as being an improved contract for the Super Eagles, the move has also rightly seen the agreement expanded to include the women’s team, something that had been previously lacking. Nigeria may have failed to impress on the pitch during the World Cup, but the vibe surrounding the team elevated the desire to own what will no doubt be one of the most memorable World Cup shirts of all time. It's that level of popularity and unprecedented demand that will undoubtedly have convinced Nike that this was a deal well worth signing.
Nike became the official kit supplier to the Super Eagles back in 2015, taking over from adidas, and with the hype surrounding the World Cup strip, all eyes will be on what this collaboration produces next. Nike took over 3 millions pre-orders for just the home shirts and the full Naija collection sold out almost immediately. Just last week Nike announced a restock, which has already sold out again.
