adidas Set To Take Rafinha To Court Over Sponsorship Deal

Barcelona midfielder Rafinha is reportedly being taken to court by adidas following his refusal to lace up in the Three Stripes for the last five months, and in turn breaking the agreement in his contract with the brand.

Rafinha signed with adidas back in 2013 in a deal that would see him wearing their boots during matches and their clothing during official media appearances. That agreement expired on 30 June of this year, and the Three Stripes reportedly got no response to repeated attempts to discuss an extension, therefore they extended the contract for a further five years. Obviously this was news to Rafinha as he has been playing in blacked out Mizuno boots since.

That's what triggered the feud and adidas have gone on to state that this is a clear breach of contract and they're reportedly seeking somewhere in the region of £90,000 for everyday that Rafinha has not been fulfilling his end of the contract. That ain’t pocket money, even for a professional footballer. Going to come down to the fine print this. As it happens adidas bosses went round to his house, roughed him up and put him hospital...

Yeah, we made that bit up. Rafinha actually ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the match against Atletico Madrid a couple of weeks back. It’s the second serious injury the Brazilian's suffered in his career after a similar injury to his left knee in September 2015 ruled him out for a prolonged period. He also needed an operation on the meniscus ligament of his right knee in September 2017. He's probably had better weeks.
