Nike has released a short film celebrating the launch of the new PhantomVNM boot, which follows young North-Londoner and rising Tottenham Ladies athlete Ronnell Humes, as she and her crew come face to face with Harry Kane on the pitch at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
This emphatic state-of-the-art arena brings a new dynamic to the North London skyline which Ronnell grew up playing in front of. From joining the Tottenham Hotspur Ladies at the age of 8 to being part of the historic team that won promotion to WSL2 – North London has always been her home ground – and her roots run much deeper than the fresh turf that she steps upon to mark a new chapter for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
There’s something about an empty stadium, that peaceful but eery silence in a theatre so synonymous with noise. For Spurs, there’s an air of excitement and anticipation bouncing round these 62,000 seats and for Ronnell, she feels it all. This stage is set.
The short film follows Ronnell and her friends around their local stomping grounds, showcasing Ronnell’s striking power as she utilises the new Nike PhantomVNM boot’s precision in front of goal. We see that power come into play later in the film, when the girls walk out on to the pitch at the new stadium for the ultimate kickabout, shortly before being joined by fellow Spurs star and PhantomVNM player, Harry Kane.
Ronnell said, ‘I didn’t ever imagine walking out at the new stadium like that, I was just speechless. It was amazing to just be there, to play in the spotlight and feel the atmosphere. As a striker and Tottenham Hotspur player, Harry is a real inspiration to me so it was incredible to walk out into the new stadium alongside him and know we’re wearing the same boots.”
Perfectly designed for strikers, the design of the PhantomVNM features a series of textured zones to facilitate a powerful strike, but with an understanding that all of the power in the world won’t score without the accuracy to keep the shot on goal. This emphasis is most evident in the instep’s ‘Precision Pwr’ strike zone, which has thirteen ridges which are set at specific angles and ascending heights to help keep the ball down if it is mishit and to provide bite on the ball. Much like its counterpart in the Phantom family, PhantomVNM increases the strike zone area by covering the laces, giving PhantomVNM a 30% larger strike zone than Hypervenom 3.
