Joining the raft of football documentaries that are set to hit our screens in the near future, Amazon Prime has released a trailer for 'Inside Borussia Dortmund', which focuses on, you guessed it, Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund and their exploits throughout the 2018/19 season from the team’s point of view.

The Manchester City ‘All or Nothing’ documentary captured a season of success, but the football-based documentaries that have followed since have been something of a curse for the teams in focus. First up there was the ‘Sunderland ’Til I Die’ series, which saw the club relegated to third tier of English football. Then recently we had the trailer for ‘Take Me Home: Leeds United’, in which the Yorkshire club tried and failed to regain a position in the Premier League. Now we have 'Inside Borussia Dortmund’, which captures the German side’s valiant but ultimately fruitless attempts to break the dominance of Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga throughout the 2018/19 season.

As with all these documentaries, ‘Inside Borussia Dortmund’ promises to provide unparalleled access and insights into the workings of the club, with an intimate look at the proceedings around the Westfalenstadion, including the opportunity to become acquainted with the players’ personal lives. As well as the 2018/19 season, the documentary will also reflect on some of Dortmund’s biggest past successes and defeats, however, and will include contributions from former coaches Jürgen Klopp and Ottmar Hitzfeld and 1997 European Cup-winning captain Matthias Sammer.

Award-winning director Aljoscha Pause, who also created ‘Being Mario Götze’, is responsible for the four-part series, which is part of the club’s internationalisation strategy, making the ‘Borussia Dortmund’ brand more accessible and more appealing to a global market.

Speaking about the documentary, Dortmund managing director Carsten Cramer said: “Aljoscha Pause has once again demonstrated his incredible filmmaking talent and has succeeded not only in discreetly producing a fascinating insight into the everyday goings on at a football club, but also in showing BVB how it really is.

Inside Borussia Dortmund will be available on Amazon Prime from 16 August.
