Celebrating the release of a sneaker that in turn celebrates one of the most iconic moments in Manchester United’s illustrious history, adidas Originals hosted a launch party at Oi Polloi for the Barcelona ’99 sneaker.
The adidas MUFC Barcelona ’99 shoe marks the 20th anniversary of the club’s dramatic 1998-99 UEFA Champions League victory, and it features a design that subtly nods to that night in the Camp Nou. The sneaker was initially unveiled just over a week ago, and to officially launch it and pay further tribute to that historic game, adidas Originals threw a special launch party at Oi Polloi in Manchester.
With the Barcelona ’99 sneaker taking centre stage, the evening was complemented with DJ sets, a look back at the memories that inspired the design of the shoe, and, of course, the odd beer or three.
The sneaker takes on a traditional adidas Originals design, using a leather upper with a suede toe overlay, but it's in the details where the story comes through, and this event was a celebration of everything that went in to making this shoe, and its story, special.
