FIFA 20 Team Of The Year Revealed

In a short ad starring Virgil Van Dijk, EA Sports have unveiled the FIFA 20 Team of the Year, naming the best XI from the last 12 months and it’s dominated by Premier League – and unsurprisingly Liverpool – players, with five of the 11 coming from the Reds.

The European Champions see Virgil Van Dijk joined by Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Alisson Becker and Sadio Mane in the team, with N’golo Kante and Kevin De Bruyne making up the rest of the Premier League contingent. Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe join Mane up top in a fearsome front three, while Frenkie De Jong and Matthijs de Ligt – both of whom enjoyed stellar season’s with Ajax before big money moves to Barcelona and Juventus respectively – complete the team.

The selection process saw FIFA 20 fans offered a list of 55 players from which they then had to vote for their choices in each position. While the team selection is always likely to cause debate (how is Kevin De Bruyne in when he was injured for a large part of last season? Where’s Ronaldo? How did Sterling not make the cut? Etcetera) but, on paper, it’s an incredibly strong setup.

In addition to the reveal, EA Sports has now released upgraded cards for the 11 best players in the game. Special TOTY Player Items will be released in FUT Packs for a limited time in FIFA 20 Ultimate Team, while starting today, fans can also vote for the 12th player to join this list in-game.
