It’s been on the cards, but today Granit Xhaka officially became a PUMA player, with the Arsenal midfielder opting to wear the Future Z silo after his contract with Under Armour ended.
Granit Xhaka’s contract with Under Armour appeared to end back at the beginning of September last year, with the Swiss international training and playing in a variety of boots, switching between Mizuno, Nike and adidas. He continued to train and play in a number of different blackout boots (the ultimate sign of an out of contract player), and that included the prototype PUMA Future Z, which he was spotted wearing in December. But this week, in Arsenal’s match with Southampton, he wore the ‘Game On’ colourway of the next generation Future, and that’s now been followed up by confirmation of the fact he has officially joined the PUMA family.
Xhaka’s decision to sign with PUMA is clearly not something he has rushed into, having been seen training and playing in a mix of Mizuno Morelia Morelia Neo III β, Nike Phantom VNM, Nike Mercurial Vapor XIII, and adidas Predator Mutator low, so you imagine that the comfort and performance of the new Future Z has had a strong influence on his decision. Arsenal’s FA Cup game against Southampton – a match they lost 1-0 – was the first time that the midfielder has worn a coloured boot since the game against West Ham on 19 September.
The move is also a further sign of intent from PUMA, who continue to add to their family at a rapid rate, following the acquisition of their new leading man, Neymar, who is now the face of the Future Z.
