The Scenes In Milan Following Inter's First Scudetto In A Decade

Inter Milan won their 19th Scudetto on the weekend – their first since 2010 – bringing an end to the nine-year dominance of Juventus as Italian champions. It was an achievement that was understandably greeted with wild scenes in the heart of Milan, as fans celebrated the momentous occasion.

Capping off what has been an extraordinary season for the club, Inter Milan clinched the Serie A title with four matches to spare this weekend, winning their 19th league title without even having to kick a ball when nearest rivals Atalanta drew 1-1 at Sassuolo. This then prompted an outpour of emotion and celebration in the heart of Milan, as fans flooded the streets from the Piazza Duomo to the Piazza Castello.

Antonio Conte’s men had already done their part, with a 2-0 win against Crotone on Saturday, but Atalanta's result on Sunday ensured the Serie A leaders retained an unassailable 13-point cushion with four matches to spare. It’s not the dream way of securing the title – just speak to Kun Aguero and Manchester City fans for that scenario – but under the circumstances, fans were only too happy to take it and to bask in the glory of the team’s success, and rightly so.

Inter’s win puts an end to Juventus’s nine-year winning streak, which was ironically started by Conte himself in 2012. It is Inter's 19th Scudetto overall, meaning they have overtaken city rivals AC Milan on 18 to become the second-most successful club in Serie A history behind Juventus with 36 titles. It has not been plain sailing though, with the team languishing in seventh in November. Add to that the humiliating elimination from the Champions League, in which the side finished bottom in a group with Real Madrid, Borussia Monchengladbach and Shakhtar Donetsk, and it adds even more sweetness – and relief – to the title win. It was certainly one hell of a way to cap off what has been a season of unprecedented change for Inter.

Inter are next in action on Saturday when they host Sampdoria. Cue more wild scenes...
