Basement Approved & New Balance Host The Basement Cup ‘22

Part football, part fashion, all fun. Online youth culture platform The Basement, in partnership with New Balance, brought together players, fans, and brands for the drippiest competition in world football.

For those that have no idea what we’re talking about, allow us to break it down for you: the Basement Cup is essentially the Copa Del Rey for people who are on a first name basis with the staff at Goodhood. Still confused? Simply put, it’s a six-a-side tournament for fashion heads and football lovers; a tournament where those in attendance could easily pick out their Fred Perrys from their John Terrys. A celebration of the beautiful game never looked so good.

The format of the tournament is simple: sixteen teams, one winner. And with YouTube ballers like Baiteze F.C. competing alongside streetwear brands like Stüssy and Trapstar, and community-focused sides like The Muslim Sisterhood, exclusivity never felt so inclusive. 

The rules were standard Football Association stuff, except there’s mixed gender teams and none of that VAR tosh. Oh, and there were DJs pumping out Hip Hop and UK Drill between matches. It’s the closest we’ll ever get to FIFA Street in real life. So sit back and let the pictures tell the story, as streetwear giants, Places + Faces overcame the odds to be crowned as champions.
