Jameson Irish Whiskey Signs Its First Footballer ‘Kyle Jameson'

In what has to be one of the most tap-in bits of marketing that we’ve seen in a long time, Jameson Irish Whiskey has signed its first footballer – League Two’s Newport County centre-back and the brand’s namesake, Kyle Jameson.

Transfer windows have had a tendency to get a bit silly in the past, with over-inflated transfer fees, last minute rushes, and players trying to force through moves. But with a shock move that no one would’ve seen coming, Jameson, a serious whiskey (that famously doesn’t take itself too seriously) thought they would add a bit of craic to the frenzy this year, and have announced the ‘signing’ of League Two’s Newport County centre-back and namesake, Kyle Jameson, with a sponsorship deal lasting throughout the 2023/24 season.

Jameson Whiskey has been quick to show off its passion for football in recent years, whether through its off-pitch collaborations with the likes of Lovers FC or Nowhere FC, or through their four-year partnership with the EFL. Their agreement with Kyle continues their commitment to support EFL football through to 2026/27, offering big brand exposure opportunities to grassroots football. On the ground level, it will see this iconic Irish whiskey brand become the official sponsor of the player’s home, away and third kits, with Newport County also showing extensive Jameson branding throughout the stadium as part of the EFL partnership.

Kyle Jameson commented about the sponsorship: ‘I couldn’t be happier to sign for this iconic ‘club’ with so much history, what an opportunity! Now it’s time to kick on and start delivering the goods for all those Jameson fans out there.’

Josh McCarthy, Jameson UK Brand Director said: ’What a fantastic way for us to get even more behind the grassroots game through our deal with Kyle & Newport County. Football and whiskey are all about telling stories and we have loads of great things to tell from the 72 EFL clubs. This Kyle Jameson x Jameson partnership just reinforces this and shows that football stories don’t always have to come from global superstars. We look forward to sharing all the work we have planned with Kyle in 2024.’

Fans have the chance to get hold of three signed Kyle Jameson football shirts via the brand's Instagram account.
