Inter Milan have two reasons to celebrate this season. Firstly they are the only club to have never dropped from Italy s top tier, and secondly it s been a 100 years since they won their first major trophy!
To commemorate a century since Inter were first crowned Italian league champions Nike have redesigned the Inter Milan home and away strips, which were unveiled by the players during their pre-season tour of the US in front of hundreds of fans. "We are true protagonists today," shouted Dejan Stankovic into the microphone. "We seem like superstars," added Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whilst Esteban Cambiasso was more reserved, saying with a modest smile: "It's all wonderful, but for me the Meazza is emotional."
For the new Inter Milan home shirt 09/10 Nike have maintained the classic blue and black stripes - unaligned from back to front - to echo the design worn during the 1965/66 season when the club won their tenth Scudetto. The reason why the Inter shirt features a star sitting proudly above the club s crest. And the crest itself is enclosed within the Italian flag, which is an honour only granted to the country s reigning champions.
The same intricate details which celebrate Inter's success also adorn the 09/10 away kit. A new design has a white polo collared shirt with a black and blue royal band, and stitched into the shirt is a woven label reading Inter Centenario Del Primo Scudetto translated as 'Centenary of the First Scudetto'.
