Introducing the new Atletico Madrid Home and Away kits for season 2009/2010, manufactured by Nike.
The traditional red and white colors signify the athletic roots of the historic capital club, as they look to build on last season's 4th place in La Liga with a new modern design and fresh look.
The unmistakable stripes of Atletico were always going to be present, with the new shirt benefitting from Nike's patented Dri-fit fabric and specifically placed mesh inserts at the sides, all aiming to "ensure maximum breathability and comfort of the wearer"
Atletico is steeped in history and is one of the most succesful in Spanish domestic competitions. Atletico fans will tell you their team is that of the people - an indication of the passion and rivalry between their city neighbours Real Madrid. Another indication of this team spirit lies in the Spanish flag embroidered on the back of the neck, added also to commemorate the return of AtlÉtico to the elite of European club football.
The fans, a pillar of support for Atletico, have a unique attatchement to the shirt with a stylish label located inside the collar, bearing the slogan "Spirit of overcoming."
The Away kit is a predominantely black affair, designed to "intimidate rivals away from CalderÓn and serve as a reminder to who the opponent is facing". The flashes of red and accents make a stylish contrast, with the rear of the shirt featuring a stripe design similar to Manchester United's 08/09 home shirt.
Atletico will be hoping that the Red and White will fly high next season in Europe and in La Liga, in what promises to be an exciting season ahead! The home and away kits are expected to retail at around £45 GBP for the adult shirt, which is available for pre-order now, with an expected July 24th release date.
