Juventus 1998-2000 Home Shirt - Kit Vault
Its the second edition of our SoccerBible Kit Vault before the end of the year! This time on show we've got our hands on the 1998-00 Juventus home shirt. A team rich in history, Juventus are one of the truly great European footballing sides...
Juventus, the 'Old Lady' of Italian football are nicknamed 'i bianconeri' which translates as the 'Black and Whites'. They are synonymous with the famous black and white shirts but back in the 1900's the teams shirt had a slightly different look to it. The teams original home shirt was bright Pink due to a mix up with their shirt supplier!
The shirt was part of the Lippi era in which Juventus experienced their most recent success. Lippi was responsible for signing some of the best players to ever wear the Juventus shirt. Lippi-era legends included the likes of; Zinedine Zidane, Filippo Inzaghi, Edgar Davids and Thierry Henry. Between 1996-98 Marcello Lippi lead Juventus to all three Champions League finals of which they won one.
This home shirt was worn during a disappointing season for Juventus who finished in 7th place in Serie A after Marcello Lippi departed for Inter Milan before returning to the club a season later. The home shirt was also carried over to the 2000 season where Juventus finished second place in the Italian league behind Lazio.
What was different about this particular Juventus home shirt was the club badge. Unlike all other clubs, the badge was stitched onto the sleeve of the shirt. The shirt featured the special Italian Scudetto badge which was worn by the current Serie A league champions and also worn on the sleeve.
Their shirt sponsor at the time was the Italian brand Kappa. One of the impressive stand out features of the shirt is the raised detailed stitching on the Kappa badge...something you don't see on the modern football shirt.
