In a fairly radical departure from the usual green look we’ve all come to expect, adidas and the Mexican Football Federation return to their warrior roots to introduce the 2019 Mexico TRI home kit.
Drawing inspiration from a milestone in the country’s footballing history, the 2019 Mexico home shirt features a design that pays homage to the iconic Aztec match ball, used during the World Cup in Mexico ’86. The sublimated graphics, based on this pre-Hispanic empire, stand out on the front of the core black jersey.
It’s refreshing to see a nation abandon its usual colourings for a home shirt, with Mexico’s usually being a shade of green. The Mexican flag is still represented with red, white and green trim appearing around the sleeve cuff for a tidy finish.
As Mexico brace themselves for a summer without Copa America action, the likes of Andrés Guardado, 'Chuky' Lozano and Héctor Moreno will instead wear the shirt in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, although it will debut in the friendly against Chile on 22 March.
The Mexico 2019 home shirt drops alongside the Argentina 2019 home shirt and the Colombia 2019 home shirt, as adidas get its American contingent set for a summer of football.
