Complementing the recent retro 2019/20 third shirt collection are Nike's stunning collection of pre-match shirts for the same seven European teams. Two standard templates, complete with some bold block colouring and emblazoned with the Futura logo. Unsurprisingly, they're selling well.
There's been a huge rise in the popularity of pre-match shirts recently, and Nike have moved to once again capitalise on it. Designed to accompany the 2019/20 third shirts for AS Roma, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Inter Milan, PSG and Tottenham on European nights in the Champions League and Europa League as seen in the opening round of both competitions, the latest pre-match warm-up shirts from the Swoosh take influence from their on-pitch counterparts, lifting the colour schemes across some big graphics. Add to that the presence of the Nike Futura logo and what you've got are shirts that add to the overall 90s-inspired retro feel of the collection as a whole.
There are two standard templates spread across the seven teams. Inter, Barca and Chelsea all share one design, and it’s the Italian side’s shirt that takes the award as the best for us, with the black and yellow colouring tying in not only with the club’s 2019/20 third shirt, but also with the original, unaltered Pirelli sponsor, continuing the celebration of the long-running partnership.
Roma, Atletico, PSG and Spurs then share a template that pleasingly centralises the Futura logo and club crests for some satisfying symmetry. Unfortunately, the colour schemes of red on Roma & Atletico and blue on PSG and Spurs leaves them feeling a little too similar and lacking in a bit of the individuality that made the on-pitch shirts so unique. Still, you'd take these designs as your team's home shirt all day, let alone just for pre-match.
