adidas Launch The Icons Jersey Collection

Introducing a retro twist to the 2019/20 replica collections of their leading European clubs, adidas have released a new drop of 'Icons Jerseys' to offer fans a throwback alternative that falls seamlessly into a thriving football x streetwear scene.

Following on from last year's 'Icons' pack which featured designs inspired by kits of the 1950s and 60s, the new collection brings more retro charm to a market where throwback is rivalling the latest shirt designs, especially to a post-teen audience. The Three Stripes have selected five of their elite European clubs for an old school release 19/20 option, as Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Manchester United and Real Madrid are all supplied with classic long sleeve designs.

It's worth pointing out quite quickly that these won't feature on pitch at any point during the 2019/20 season but what they do offer is a smart, more-wearable option for fans looking for something a little different when it comes to representing their clubs. As much as the 2019/20 match jersey are inspired by streetwear with a more contemporary vibe, there is still some stigma in fans, particularly those that are often older than the players, wanting to acknowledge the club without looking like a wannabe player.

Retro jerseys from yesteryear most definitely tick that box, but they're becoming harder to pick up in decent quality. That's why the 'Icons' collection exists. Long sleeve jerseys with classic fold-over collars, shiny graphic bodies with minimal club crests and adidas logo with no shirt sponsor. Shirts that aren't pretending to be re-makes, but simply celebrate a beautiful, more simplistic period of football.
