Kappa Present The 2019/20 Aston Villa Lookbook

Highlighting the strong start to their relationship with Aston Villa, Kappa have shot a stunning lookbook showcasing the club’s 2019/20 home and away kits in their natural environment, in and around Villa Park.

Kappa has been making some big waves this season with some strong designs firmly marking their position as an alternative contender in the replica market. And fresh off highlighting its three stunning kits for Monaco, the Italian brand are back at it again, this time swapping the stunning backdrop of the mediterranean province for the midlands, and more specifically Birmingham.

Aston Villa and Kappa announced their new partnership back in May, ahead of the club sealing promotion back to the Premier League. But with that prize securely in the bag Kappa were in the  enviable position of being able to supply one of the oldest clubs in England with their kits as they returned to the top tier of English football – a place where they arguably belong. And the relationship between brand and club has got off to a strong start, with a clean mixture of tradition and modern stylings marking them out.

Claret and blue was always going to be a difficult hand to be dealt, and with the partnership only announced in May, it was unclear how long Kappa had to work on the home shirt design. It’s a solid offering however, with a decent silhouette, although, as with many shirts this season, it’s hindered by a garish sponsor logo. But what is potentially one of the weak points of the home shirt is transformed into one of the away shirts strengths, as Kappa invert the claret and blue, this time including the sponsor in the colouring. The look is clean and simplistic with a nice diagonal pinstripe embellishment across the body adding that little extra flourish.

To complement the home and away shirts in the shoot, Kappa opted to include the yellow keeper’s kit instead of the club’s third kit, which features a design strong enough to virtually warrant a lookbook of its own. But the yellow works well with the home and away, providing a burst of contrast, adding to the dynamic that's captured within the backdrop of the historic Villa Park. The team look the part on the pitch, and the look transitions smoothly to the pavement; Yep, this is certainly a partnership that we want to see continue to blossom in the Premier League in the seasons to come.
