Carrying some serious Germany World Cup ’94 vibes, Nike launch the Club America 2020 third jersey, and it continues the ‘Eterna Grandeza’ (Eternal Greatness) slogan that the home and away shirts arrived under.
The Club America 2020 third shirt takes a turquoise base and applies the same triangular graphic to the upper chest that appears on the home shirt, albeit in a black, yellow and red combination. That choice of colouring on the graphic, placed on the turquoise base is what instantly conjures images of Jurgen Klinsmann et al. on the pitches of USA ’94 – and that’s no bad thing. The Club America home jersey made it into our top 30 shirts of the 2019/20 season, so we’re all for the template being reused again here, especially with a colour combo that harks back to the 90s.
Black trim appears on the collar and cuffs, while the same sponsor logos take their place on the midriff along with further sponsors on the sleeves and two on the back for an standard Central American look. Wouldn't get that on a European shirt, no sir. A twin serpent motif – an iconic symbol of the Aztec empire – takes its place on the red band on the rear of the collar.
Club America return to Liga MX action on 19 January with a home fixture against Tigres UANL, and they’ll be hoping to push on one step further than they did last season after they lost out in the Apertura Finals to Monterrey.
Looks like the Club America 2020 Third Jersey isn't going to be available in Europe, with it likely being a South America exclusive. Gutted.
