Harking back to a moment that kickstarted an era of success for the club, Nike has launched the new Corinthians home shirt for the 20/21 season. The design pays tribute to the Brazilian championship winning team from 1990, the first of seven Série A titles that Timão went on to win in the following 27 years.
Corinthians’ first Campeonato Brasileiro Série A was a long time in coming, but when that moment came the flood gates were broken, and a period of unprecedented success soon followed. In homage to that hugely pivotal success in the club’s history, the new home shirt for the 20/21 season is based on the model that was worn by the champions of the 90s, with that iconic feel bolstered by modern performance benefits.
The polo neck is painted black with a white stripe, closing with buttons on the front. The phrase "Beginning of an era" perches on the inside of the neck in reference to the starting point of the most important successes in the club’s history. The sides see a disjointed black stripe in a similar execution to that which was seen on the Portland Thorns’ new kit recently. The cuffs and sides are also painted black, the latter with a graphic that represents the waving flags of the fans (present only in the player version, in the replica version the sides are smooth). Additionally, as a further nod to the period, the figure of the legendary "Craque" Neto will appear on the official numbers, which are also based on those of the time.
