adidas Launch Ajax 20/21 Third Shirt

Paying homage to the club’s first European Cup triumph from 50 years ago, adidas have unveiled the Ajax 20/21 third shirt; a black and gold beauty that the Eredivisie side will wear in their away matches in European competitions this season.

Nowt more fancy than a black and gold shirt, as Barcelona are sure to attest to this season already, but now Ajax join the ranks of the classily clad, as adidas unveil the club’s 20/21 third shirt. But this shirt is about more than just looking good, as it also celebrates (in style, we might add) the 50th anniversary of Ajax’s European Cup (now Champions League) triumph back in the 1970/71 season.

The main link to the past success – other than the gold – sees golden laurels underneath the Ajax logo, with the number ‘50’ in the middle, while internally the inscription ’02.06.1971’ can be found on the neckline. This is the date on which Ajax began their three-year dynasty in Europe with their win at Wembley Stadium, followed later by other European successes, including a Champions League victory in 1995.

Ensuring a clear connection to the classic Ajax look, the design also features a subtle contrast between dark grey and black, through which the iconic strip can be seen in the middle of the jersey. It’s a nice touch and a nice link to the home shirt this season. Those gold accents then pop on the sponsor’s logo, the special club logo that is embroidered on the chest, and the Three Stripes on the shoulders.

The shirt is set to debut in Ajax’s friendly match against Red Bull Salzburg on Saturday, August 22.
