Paying tribute to the club’s triumph in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 50 years ago, Adidas launch the Leeds United 20/21 third shirt, with golden embellishments harking back to the win over Juventus in 1971.
Back in 1970/71 Leeds United beat Juventus over two legs (on any goals after a 2-2 draw away and a 1-1 draw at Elland Road), securing the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and a moment of history for the club as the last ever winners of that competition. 50 years on, and adidas have looked to pay tribute to that achievement with the design of the club’s new third shirt for the 20/21 campaign.
The shirt comes in a luxurious maroon colouring, with a tonal front pattern design and solid maroon sleeves and back, and, in a similar fashion to the away shirt, the overall design is embellished with hits of gold flashing through the collar, cuffs, branding – including the Three Stripes that line the sides of the shirt – and importantly the club crest. Shame the sponsor logo couldn’t follow suit in gold. Otherwise, an absolute banger that joins the clean home shirt and that rivals the club’s away shirt on our top 20 shirts of the season list…
