Costa Rica is recognised as one of the most sustainable countries by the World Energy Council and is home to six percent of the planet’s biodiversity, and as a tribute to that, New Balance have revealed the Costa Rica home and away shirts for 2021, with designs that take inspiration from the country’s diverse wildlife.

In celebration of Costa Rica’s 200-year bicentennial in 2021, Los Ticos’ new home and away shirts for 2021 have been partially made from recycled materials for the first time, embracing Costa Rica’s commitment to their ecosystem. The republic is widely recognised as a world leader in sustainability and environmental protection, and the shirt designs take inspiration from the country’s diverse wildlife, using shapes derived from morphogenesis and the natural landscape as the base.

General Manager of New Balance Football, Kenny McCallum said: “We’re extremely proud and excited to collaborate with Costa Rica on these jerseys partially made with recycled fabric. Honouring the nation’s longstanding commitment to sustainability was incredibly important to our design team for the bicentennial year. We’re making positive strides across the business to operate more sustainably and recognise the ability football has in helping to amplify the message of environmental protection. Los Ticos are the ultimate team to further these initiatives.

Costa Rica and New Balance athlete Raquel “Rocky” Rodriguez, “The new kit is incredibly strong. It’s always a proud moment to put on the national colours but this design feels extra special because it recognises Costa Rica and I know the team cannot wait to wear it.
