As has become something of a tradition for the Bundesliga side in recent years, Mainz 05, in partnership with new kit supplier Kappa, have launched a special edition shirt for carnival season.

Mainz 05 and Kappa got their new relationship underway at the beginning of the 20/21 season, but despite this the tradition of producing a special edition carnival jersey continues. Traditionally, carnival season in Mainz begins on November 11 at 11:11 and continues through to Ash Wednesday. However, the event peaks in February or March in the days leading up to Ash Wednesday, hence the jersey’s appearance now.

The design of this season’s shirt is a typically colourful affair, with diagonal stripes in the Mainz carnival colours of red, white, blue and yellow adorning the front, while the sleeves are in classic red with white accents. What sets this particular shirt out from previous efforts though is the detail on the rear. The shirt pays homage to season ticket holders who supported the club by not taking a refund when games had to be played behind closed doors, incorporating their names on the back.

With the purchase of the current 05ER carnival jersey 11 euros of the price will be given to the club’s fan bars in Mainz, which has suffered particularly from the Corona pandemic.
