Hummel Launch Everton 21/22 Away Shirt

Inspired by the Club’s ‘Black Watch’ strip of 1881/82, hummel launch the Everton 21/22 away shirt, and it will be worn by the First-Team for Sunday’s final Premier League fixture of the season away at champions Manchester City.

The Toffees’ hummel away shirt for the coming season is inspired by the kit worn by the Everton team of 1881/82 – a side that came to be nicknamed ‘The Black Watch’. The authentic nod to the ‘Black Watch’ kit of 1881/82 – the third season of Everton’s existence – comes following fan calls for the revered strip to be replicated and to celebrate the Club’s role as a pillar of the community for more than 140 years. The original strip was worn for home matches – then a series of friendlies and local cup fixtures played on Stanley Park – with Everton not adopting its famous royal blue jersey until 20 years later in 1901.

The black shirt sees a statement burnt orange sash standing out on the front, with the sponsor also joining the sash in the burnt orange colour. In a break from tradition, hummel’s famous chevrons and logo come in a tonal grey, rather than the iconic white.

As part of the Everton for Change initiative – the Club’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and raising sustainability awareness – Everton’s home, away and third kits for the 2021/22 season will again be environmentally friendly, with the Blues becoming the first club to use hummel’s ECO8 technology, meaning each shirt is manufactured from high-performing polyester produced from up to eight recycled plastic bottles.

The kits will also feature hummel’s ZEROH2O dry-dye technology, a ground-breaking process that ensures there is zero water consumption, zero wastewater and a 50 per cent reduction in energy consumption during the dying phase of production.

Allan Vad Nielsen, hummel’s CEO said: “We are so proud of our association with Everton Football Club and of everything that was achieved in the first 12 months of our technical partnership. Like last year, we wanted to produce a kit that would resonate with fans and be truly, authentically Everton.

"Going back to the Club's earliest years and taking our inspiration from something as iconic as the 'Black Watch' kit to illustrate the longevity and togetherness of the Everton Family just made sense. We hope Evertonians enjoy this kit and we look forward to seeing them back in the stands, wearing the new colours, celebrating victories as one.

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin added: “I was a big fan of last year’s kits and I think hummel have again come up with something the fans are going to love.

“When you join this Club you are immediately made aware of its history and standing in the game – but also about the ambition, innovation and drive to take things forward.

“That’s what this kit represents. It’s a nod to the past but it’s cool, current, and uses the latest eco technology. I can’t wait to walk out in this kit next season and hopefully see Evertonians packing out away ends like we know they always do.
