Girondins de Bordeaux celebrate their 140th year this season, and as part of the celebrations adidas have provided the Ligue 1 side with a special edition kit and supporting apparel collection. The kit was debuted in the 1-1 draw with Nantes this weekend.
The Atlantic Derby between Bordeaux and Nantes is always a feisty affair, as all good derbies should be, and this weekend’s clash was given added meaning, with Girondins debuting a special edition kit in the game. The kit, produced by adidas, has been created to help the club celebrate its 140th anniversary, and it comes with a supporting apparel collection.
Limited to just 1881 numbered copies, celebrating the club's founding year, the jersey is predominantly Burgundy, nodding to the wine heritage of the region. The traditional chevron across the chest takes on a gold colour, along with the Three Stripe branding on the shoulders and the cuffs of the sleeves, with the sponsor and club badge also adopting the regal look. The look will likely bring back memories of the club’s incredible European adventure of 1996, when Zinedine Zidane, Christophe Dugarry and co. went all the way to the final. The supporting collection includes a track top and hoodie
Sylvain Bouchès, Brand Director at adidas France, described the collaboration: "We were thrilled to work with the Girondins to create this special kit and celebrate this special anniversary. Adidas and the Girondins de Bordeaux are united by our passion for the sport, and we're proud to be a part of the next, ambitious chapter in the club's storied history."
Gérard Lopez, Bordeaux Club President said: "On behalf of the whole Girondins family, I would like to personally thank our partner Adidas for their enthusiastic involvement in creating this special anniversary kit, which – better still – marks the return of our beloved logo. We are very excited to see what the future holds for this wonderful collaboration."
