Having recently soft-rebooted into the lifestyle scene, Barcelona-based brand Meyba are back in the professional game with their first signing of the comeback era, one they deliberately chose as a statement of intent: world, meet The Las Vegas Lights!
Football heritage brand Meyba are an outfit with one hell of a link to the history of the game. This is a brand that dressed no less than F.C. Barcelona for a decade, and not just any decade, but the decade in which they won their first European Cup. It was a side that, during Meyba’s tenure, boasted the likes of Cruyff, Maradona, Guardiola, Laudrup, Koeman, Stoichkov… the list goes on, and they were all wearing clothing adorned with that unmistakeable Mitica ‘M’ symbol. It was an era that shaped and defined the club’s identity for the coming generations. But following that successful stint Meyba dropped off the radar, disappearing from public consciousness. Now they’re back, and making a bold move with USL side Las Vegas Lights.
Under the watchful eye of kit guru, Neal Heard as their Creative Director, Meyba first announced a return through a series of lifestyle releases, showing off that transition from performance to lifestyle and drawing on their footballing heritage through the use of bold shapes and colours to seamlessly link the worlds of football and fashion. Now they’re going back to their roots, ready to disrupt the professional scene by tapping into their knowledge and understanding of the continued fusion between football and fashion to present a new dynamic.
Their first chosen canvas is that of USL Championship side Las Vegas Lights, a side who share a similar ethos and attitude both on and off the pitch in terms of bucking trends and not conforming, instead treading their own path and carving out a unique identity.
The first thing to come form this union is a pair of jerseys that instantly speak of the direction that they’re heading in, announcing things in a loud and proud fashion that’s wholly appropriate of the iconic city of Las Vegas.
The home kit arrives in a black base, paying homage to the cities infamous lurid lighting with a neon-inspired graphic spread. The away then comes in a contrasting white, with a colourful wavy graphic that picks up on Nevada's dry desert and wind induced erosion contours. Expect to see the kits in use from this Sunday, 13 March, when The Lights get their USL season underway on the road against New Mexico United.
