adidas Launch River Plate 22/23 Away Shirt

Taking its cues from the design that was in use from 1985-88, adidas have unveiled the River Plate 22/23 away shirt, which will be in use throughout the remaining fixtures in the The Primera División.

River Plate and Adidas have one of the longest running partnerships in thee game, which means that the Three Stripes have a wealth of choice when it comes to inspiration for current shirt designs. And so they turn to a period of great success for the club; a time when River scooped the Primera division title, the Intercontinental Cup, The Copa Libertadores and the Copa Interamericana.

The new away shirt sees a contemporary twist on the 1985-88 version; where that has solid white hoops on the red base around its midriff, here we get a fading hoop graphic that appears on the front only. Three fading white hoops echo the original for a nice homage, while the word "Grandeza" (greatness) appears on the back of the neck as a reminder of the importance of valuing the past on the path to a better future. White details on the collar, cuffs, branding and sponsor complete what is a nice departure from what’s come previously and a strong link to the club’s successful past.

With both clubs now under the Three Stripes umbrella, adidas took the controversial move of promoting the release of both Boca Juniors and River Plate away shirts in one hit. Sure as the bitterest of rivals the fans won't mind that...
