England To Wear Special Prematch Shirt Ahead Of Scotland Game

Ahead of the 150th Anniversary Heritage Match against Scotland at Hampden Park, England will wear a unique pre-match top that features the original Three Lions crest.

England v Scotland is the world’s oldest international fixture, and tonight’s game represents the 116th meeting of the sides. The Scottish Football Association is hosting the 150th Anniversary Heritage Match to celebrate their significant anniversary, and ahead of the occasion, the Three Lions will nod to their own heritage by donning a jersey bearing the original crest from the first Scotland v England meeting in 1872.

England men’s captain Harry Kane sported the replica for the first time during a visit to Hamilton Crescent in Glasgow, the scene of the goalless draw that was played out on 30 November 1872, alongside Scotland counterpart Andy Robertson, who was dressed in Scotland’s special 150-year anniversary kit. Only shame is that England’s kit is only a prematch shirt, rather than a match kit, as it would’ve been great to see both sides dressed out in a retro design.

While the England prematch shirt looks devoid of branding and sponsor, both do still feature, just in a subtle white look. The shirt is constructed from Nike Dri-FIT ADV technology, a high-performance technical fabric, which doesn’t quite sit with the retro feel of the crest, but balances for a progressive take with a vintage twist. Would undoubtedly be popular with fans, however, they won’t be available for retail, with the players' limited-edition shirts set to be auctioned to raise money for the FA’s official charity partner, Alzheimer’s Society.
