Paying tribute to the 40th anniversary of the “Diretas Ja” civil movement, Nike launch the 2023/24 Corinthians third kit, which will be debuted in the game against Botafogo this weekend.
Earlier this year, Corinthians launched their 2023 Nike home and away shirts, which featured designs inspired by the style of the 80s and the ‘Corinthians Democracy Movement’. The 1980s were unforgettable at Parque São Jorge: in 1983, Corinthians celebrated the second São Paulo championship. In addition to the sporting achievement, the title crowned the movement known as Corinthian Democracy. The ‘Corinthians Democracy Movement’ challenged the club’s authoritarian management and transcended football by raising political awareness across the country. Apart from introducing an innovative way to manage a club, it was recognised in Brazil as one of the most important actions in the struggle against dictatorship. At the time, it was a challenge to the military government, and a prominent colour worn throughout was yellow.
And so the new third shirt comes in a vibrant yellow, a reference to the colour used by players, artists and journalists in the historic rally that took place in the centre of São Paulo, calling for the return of direct elections in the country. This date is featured on the inside of the shirt, at the back of the neck, with the inscription "Vale do Anhangabaú - São Paulo/SP - 16 April 1984". For the first time the Corinthians kit boasts a crest and Swoosh made with Nike Grind – recycled materials.
