Women's Grassroots Side Whippets FC Reveal Bespoke Kit From Umbro

Calling on the creativity within the club, women’s grassroots outfit Whippets FC have revealed their new home kit for 2024 from Umbro, which was designed by London-based designer and Whippets team member, Sophie Hird.

The women’s grassroots scene is fast emerging as a space for some seriously talented creatives to flex, and following on from the impressive Victoria Park Vixens kits from Kappa, we now get a beautifully bespoke offering for Whippets FC, a creative collective that ply their trade on the iconic pitches at Hackney Marshes. The kit comes courtesy of Umbro, but designed by Whippets’ own Sophie Hird; Hird has garnered attention and praise for up cycling football jerseys in the past, but now she turns her immense talents to creating a new look for her side.

The kit sees a black base overlaid by neon pinstripes, with the club crest and Double Diamond branding taking up a central position below that classic-feeling collar.

Speaking about the kit, Hird said: “The inspiration for the jersey design was led by looking through football kit archives from the 80s and 90s. I love how loud some of the retro jerseys are in terms of colour and print, so really wanted to play with this yet maintain a wearable element. The design we chose in the end feels very classic and a piece I hope players will want to wear on-and-off the pitch.
