Drawing from the heritage, culture and natural beauty of the island, adidas have unveiled the new Jamaica home, away and prematch jerseys for 2024 and beyond. The Reggae Boyz will debut the new jersey in their FIFA World Cup qualifying matches on 7 and 9 June.
Last year, adidas and Jamaica got their new partnership underway with a bold and exciting collaboration with acclaimed fashion label, Wales Bonner. It was well received on all fronts, and so there has been a natural level of anticipation surrounding how they would follow it up. And the answer comes in the form of the nation’s new home, away and prematch kits, which have all been unveiled together, and the release sees the designs infuse the traditional Jamaica black, gold and green with patterns and symbols representing the nation’s rich history, natural beauty and carnival culture.
The new Jamaica home jersey is presented in the country’s rich national colours of black, gold, and green, with gold as the primary. Drawing on the island’s Caribbean heritage, a unique, hand-drawn and wax-painted motif reminiscent of traditional graphic styles is embossed throughout the main panel of the jersey. The graphic pays tribute to Jamaican nature, featuring symbols of its national bird (doctor bird) and national flower (lignum vitae).
The away jersey sees a similar graphic from the home jersey remixed as a tighter, printed design in the eye-catching colours of the Jamaican national flag, lending the look far more prominence. The team nicknames take their place beneath the back of the crew neck collar for a nice sign off.
Sam Handy, SVP of Product and Design at adidas, said: “We wanted the design of these new jerseys to represent the rich culture of a country that is celebrated worldwide. Just as Jamaica’s motto ‘out of many, one people’ speaks to its unity through diversity, this jersey is unapologetically vibrant from a distance, but has multiple, unique details to discover up close.
We’re proud to continue supplying the JFF with matchday wear to support the players on the pitch, ahead of a massive tournament this summer for the Reggae Boyz and an important year for the Reggae Girlz, as they build on their historic achievements in the last FIFA Women’s World Cup.”
