Third tier German side TSV 1860 Munich is tapping into the fashion-forward lane occupied by the likes of Venezia and Athens Kallithea with the reveal of a lux-feeling special edition ‘Members Jersey’, produced by exciting new brand, Societas.
There’s a new brand in town, and when it comes to premium designs in a fashion-forward footballing space, they may well be the brand to turn to. Societas is the combined creation of the founders of A Kind of Guise and Mirko Borsche, founder of the eponymous Bureau Borsche (a name that will certainly be familiar to those who have had more than a passing interest in the more recent journey of Venezia). The brand is set to specialise in the creation of bespoke jerseys that aim to go far beyond the classic storytelling that clubs and suppliers use in the production of kits. And the first team to benefit from their labours are German third tier side, TSV 1860 Munich.
TSV 1860 Munich boasts a rich and deep heritage in the game, and the wider sporting world. For over 160 years their journey has captivated fans, although in a footballing sense, their story is often overshadowed by the footballing power of neighbours, Bayern Munich. Now, to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the football division of the club, TSV Munich has revealed a special edition ‘Members Jersey’.
The design features the traditional club colours green and gold in a retro-inspired design. There are 17 gold pinstripes, representing the different sections of the club, which are also listed on the inside of the collar. Interestingly, the shirt has been produced strictly by the club, and it’s not officially endorsed by the football section, 60 percent of which is owned by controversial investor Hasan Ismaik. It has therefore not been promoted by the football team, is not available in the football team store and will not be worn in official matches. With a design like that though, it feels like it’s their loss.
