Celebrating 50 years since they first partnered in 1974, adidas and the Argentinian Football Federation have revealed a special edition kit and collection. The kit is expected to debut in the match against Peru on 20 November.
50 years ago adidas supplied Argentina with a kit for the first time. Over the next five decades the pair have shared an on-off relationship, with only the odd interruption to regular service from the likes of Uribarri, Le Coq Sportif in the eighties and Reebok around the turn of the millennium. Otherwise it’s been a strong partnership, filled with a rich history that includes two of the nation’s three World Cup wins. And to celebrate the 50th anniversary, Adidas have created a special edition kit and collection.
The retro-inspired design draws from the kit that the Albiceleste wore back in 1974, showcasing the distinctive and traditional Ambient Sky and Cloud White stripes. They’re complemented by a Trefoil logo and a stripped back mid-1970s Argentina crest on the chest, both of which are in gold to celebrate the achievements of the team over the years.
Inside the collar, there is a special graphic with a laurel wreath and the sun symbol of the Argentinean flag with the words 'En el alma y en la piel' (In the soul and on the skin). Above it are the words 50 ANOS, nodding to the 50 years of partnership, while below are three stars to symbolise the three World Cup wins.
The Argentina x adidas 50th anniversary shirt will be available at prodirectsport.com/soccer from 16 November.
