Inspired by iconic Copenhagen design and Scandinavian craftsmanship, adidas reveal the F.C. Copenhagen 24/25 third shirt, which nods to the city’s famous green benches, reflected in the kit’s patterns, curves, and colours.

Earlier this year, F.C. Copenhagen sprung to our attention by launching their 24/25 home shirt – a bespoke design that came with an important message that a simple visit to the doctor can save lives. Now that’s been followed up by a beautiful new third shirt, which arrives with an elegant design that nods to the timeless beauty and subtle minimalism that defines Scandinavian aesthetics, helping Copenhagen earn its ranking as one of the World's most liveable cities in 2024.

The jersey design takes a big step towards transcending traditional sportswear, bridging high fashion and Scandinavian design heritage. For it, F.C. Copenhagen and adidas sent a design team into the heart of Copenhagen for on-the-ground inspiration and insight directly from the city’s unique aesthetics. This is a city that The New York Times described as a “polestar of art, architecture, design, and gastronomy,” while UNESCO designated it the World Capital of Architecture in 2023. So, yeah, as inspiration goes, not a bad place to be drawing from.

The design team behind the jersey immersed themselves in the essence of classic Copenhagen, drawing inspiration from the city’s traditional typography, historic doors, ornate gates, distinctive door knobs, and intricate ironwork details. The iconic city benches stood out with their distinctive green colour known as ‘Copenhagen green’, which reappears across various design elements, creating a sense of cohesion in the city's overall visual expression.

The ‘Copenhagen benches’, found in Copenhagen since the late 1800s, ended up serving as the core inspiration. It was this colour that was reimagined in the jersey— a shade of green that feels timeless and contemporary all at once. The kit’s textured patterns subtly reflect the curved forms and unique details of the significant Copenhagen design tradition, transforming the city’s remarkable aesthetics into a wearable fashion piece.

Jürgen Rank, Senior Design Director at adidas, said: “Our goal is always to create designs that resonate with players and supporters alike. The club inspired us to celebrate the iconic Copenhagen design, an idea we brought to life by capturing the exact shade of green and intricate details from the Copenhagen benches, within the shirt’s patterns. The result transforms a unique local symbol into a statement piece that embodies both city and club.”

The jersey campaign was shot in two parts. The first was in and around the city, captured by Jonas Villadsen, while the second was in studio by acclaimed fashion photographer Rasmus Weng Karlsen, known for his editorial work in Vogue and Eurowoman. It saw F.C. Copenhagen stars like Thomas Delaney and other club icons, including Rudi Nielsen, lifelong fan and widow of club co-founder, Harald Nielsen, wearing the new jersey along with the iconic benches.

The new F.C. Copenhagen third jersey will be available for purchase from 23 November.
