Completing the Swiss side’s kit set for 24/25, Macron have revealed a special edition fourth kit for FC Basel. The design draws inspiration from the legend of the Basilisk, the mythical beast that symbolises the city of Basel.
For the 24/25 season, Macron blessed FC Basel with one of the best kit sets going, and by that we mean home, away and third. But as if that weren’t enough, the Italian brand have only gone and created another beautiful design for the Swiss side in the form of the fourth and final strip for the campaign. The 2024/25 Special Kit is based on the legend of the Basilisk, the mythical beast that symbolises the city of Basel. Half serpent and half cock, this creature is one of the most significant and recurring motifs in the city’s art, architecture and culture and has also been adopted as a symbol of the club.
The legend of the Basilisk says that the creature is a fierce and deadly beast that hatched from an egg laid by a cock at the bottom of a dark pit. The blue-grey egg was kept warm for 19 days by a serpent that wound itself around it. Thanks to the serpent’s warmth, the colour of the shell changed to a golden yellow. And it’s from here that the base colour of the shirt comes. Red and Bordeaux details on the crew neck and sleeve cuffs recall the eyes of the creature and their fatal stare. The body of the shirt, front and back, features an embossed graphic pattern consisting of vertical stripes inside which the motif of the Basilisk is repeated. Printed in Bordeaux silicone on the chest are the Macron Hero on the right and, on the left, a single-colour version of the FC Basel 1893 badge with two stars over it, representing the 20 Swiss Championships that the club has won.
The custom inside neck label has a black background and, in white, the image of the Basilisk, the ball that appears in the club’s badge and the lettering FC BASEL 1893. A customised tape that runs around the inside of the back bottom hem repeats the phrase BRENNE FÜR DEN FCB (Burning for FCB) in white, while an image of the Basilisk is printed in red behind the neck as a tidy sign off.
And it doesn’t just stop there. The club is relating the legend of the Basilisk not just through the graphics, symbols and colours of the special kit that the RotBlau will wear this season, but also through initiatives aimed at supporters and people of the city. Over the next few weeks, FC Basel, in conjunction with the Basel Tourism, will organise a special treasure hunt, with four gold footballs (symbolising four golden eggs) hidden around the city. A series of clues for finding them will then be given on the social media profiles of FC Basel and Basel Tourismus.
